New York and New Jersey Shaken by Earthquake, Minimal Damage Reported

An earthquake jolted the Northeast on Friday, its impact rippling from Philadelphia to Boston.

At a New Jersey general store near the quake’s epicenter, the sound was so thunderous that staff mistook it for a truck crashing into the building. Meanwhile, just five miles away at a riding stable, the tremor was forceful enough to send three horses galloping around the ring.

Within hours of the quake, a custom T-shirt shop in Manhattan began selling a unique souvenir: a shirt boldly declaring, “I Survived The N.Y.C. Earthquake, April 5th, 2024.”

While millions felt the effects of the magnitude-4.8 quake, for most, it was a harmless novelty in a region not accustomed to seismic activity. However, the shaking rattled buildings in New York City, prompting startled residents to spill onto the streets. Throughout the day, aftershocks persisted, including one registering 4.0, felt widely across New York and New Jersey.
